MLim Consulting Inc.

Forensic Engineering Investigation Services

Providing expert investigative solutions since 2008

Headquartered in Chicago, MLIM Consulting Inc. is a practice dedicated to supporting and resolving construction problems.  The practice works with the community, legal and insurance firms to resolve disputes, by using the latest nondestructive testing techniques and to bring resolution to construction and insurance claims.  MLIM provides investigative and testing services related to structural distress and materials issues through the use of the latest nondestructive testing techniques and laboratory testing methods.  Nondestructive testing allows the operator to “see” what is going on inside the structure, regardless of the surface conditions and obtain a complete picture of the nature of the distress.

MLIM also partners with different research facilities and universities in the United States to be able to determine the cause of a new deterioration mechanism, due to material interaction or incompatible foreign admixtures.  MLIM is a registered small business with the Federal Government and a registered minority business in Illinois and Minnesota. We have licensed Structural Engineers in Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Minnesota and licensed Professional Engineers (Materials) in Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

Areas of Practice

Forensic Assessment

>> Forensic analysis – evaluation of failed concrete structures or structural components.
>> Structural Analysis – determine the overall structural load carrying capacity and the assessment of as-built reinforcing placement as an influencing factor in the overall assessment.
>> Post tensioning – analysis of anchorage zones, elongation, stressing related issues blowout and sequencing methodology.
>> Property Loss/Storm Damage Investigation – determination of property damage due to a fire or wind.

Corrosion assessment

>> Corrosion assessment of concrete structures – assessing the environment of the concrete around the reinforcing bar and not just measuring one or two properties.
>> Utilizing the latest technology in corrosion assessment to make the most accurate assessment on the current state of the structure.
>> Life cycle modeling based on current corrosive state identified in the testing.

.

Expert testimony/data mining

>> Data Analytics mining – incorporating third party data, such as weather data, temperature or precipitation to determine the influence of outside factors as part of the analysis
>> Expert Witness / Litigation Support / Mediation & Arbitration Support – provide expert witness testimony to support the findings in a case.

Materials testing

>> Materials evaluation – addressing quality issues to determine the root cause of deterioration
>> A full set of laboratory testing, including Petrographic Examination, Chloride Content, XRF, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) etc. Laboratory testing according to ASTM

Nondestructive testing/structural assessment

>> Nondestructive as-built reinforcing bar placement evaluation – using advanced testing techniques to evaluate the as-built bar placements.
>> Nondestructive reinforced masonry assessment for the presence of voids/reinforcement – using a combination of different methods to assess the overall condition of the masonry wall.
>> Structural investigation of mass concrete structures and equipment foundations in petrochemical and natural resources facilities.
>> Ultrasonic Shear Wave Tomography evaluation for anomalies (voids, honeycombings, etc) in concrete elements – to assess voids and honeycombing in large concrete structures
>> Structural monitoring, on site and remote monitoring - installation of sensors for remote monitoring
>> Structural element testing such as load testing – load testing according to the required standards, this includes constant monitoring during the load test to ensure safety first.
>> Evaluation of the effectiveness of repairs – ensuring that the repair is done right, and not fail or cause further deterioration later on.
>> Structural assessment of parking barriers.
>> Pavement evaluation and design.
>> Slab on grade testing and evaluation.
